Our Summer To-Do List 2019

It is starting to feel like Summer! And with the beautiful Alberta weather and green grass and gorgeous flowers, come all the FUN, Summer activities! Our little family typically does day-long road trips as it best suits our family budget and scheduling. Travelling and seeing new (and familiar!) parts of Alberta has kinda become our Summer-thing. I love the idea of spending the whole day exploring and having fun but still being close enough to come home and go to sleep in our own beds (especially with a new baby...sleep is a coveted luxury!)

Summer 2019 will be filled with tons of fun, great food, and lots of memories! We are looking forward to crossing off some of our annual favourites, as well as some new adventures! Check out what made our Summer Bucket-List:

~ Visit Mirror Lake, take the train and get an ice cream (One of many attractions in our little city!)

~ Lots and lots of beach and lake days: All winter long I have been longing for days like this one. I am so excited to visit our favourite spot - Pelican Point and try out new and different lakes and beaches this summer that are within a days drive to us!

~ Spend a day at Leduc in the Alexandra Outdoor Pool and Spray Park and finish the day off with some Tutti Frutti yogurt (of course!). This is one of our most favorite day trips each summer!

~ Spend a day at the Blackfalds Outdoor Pool. I have heard raving reviews about the outdoor pool in Blackfalds (it even has a little beach area!). I think this is the perfect addition to our summer to-do list and am looking forward to checking it out!

~ Explore a new spray park. Our local swimming pool & spray park is currently under renovation and so we will need to travel in order to take advantage of the fun a spray park can bring. I would love to check out the spray parks in either Tofield or Ardrossan. We would make it a full-day adventure by packing a picnic lunch!

~ Visit as many playgrounds in our town as possible! Our local community has been updating & renovating all of our local playgrounds (as necessary). This summer, we want to pack a picnic lunch and spend a day playing + exploring all the “new-to-us” parks in our area!

Our Summer To-Do List

~ Take Colden to Calaway Park and Calgary Zoo

~ Visit the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village during their Vintage Day. I first fell in love with this museum way back on a grade 5 field-trip, and ever since it has been one of my most favourite places on earth. During their Vintage Day celebrations, visitors can enjoy a display of vintage vehicles from all across Canada, as well as a singing competition that showcases the provinces finest, young singers, in addition to the usual village, and market activities. The Ukrainian Village actually holds a lot of meaning for my little family; Pier proposed at the village back in 2011 and I am so excited to be able to take Colden here for the first time, this year!

~ Take the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions from Stettler to Big Valley - Colden LOVES trains, so this is the perfect little trip for my little boy! I just c a n n o t wait to surprise him! 

~ Spend a day at Leduc in the Alexandra Outdoor Pool and Spray Park and finish the day off with some Tutti Frutti yogurt (of course!)

~ Visit the Dinosaurs of Drumheller - For Christmas, we received passes to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum ; we cannot wait to visit this popular Alberta attraction for the first time!

~ Visit as many playgrounds in our town as possible!

100 Awesome Summer Activities You Should Do When You Visit Camrose

1. Jaywalkers Jamboree June 3 - June 4, 2016: West Coast Amusement's Midway, local shopping and deals, concessions and fair food PLUS stage entertainment. More information here

2. Camrose Art Walk - Stroll around Camrose downtown locations and see local artists work. Visit the Chuck MacLean Art Centre for more details.

3. Make homemade ice-cream or popsicles

4. Enjoy a Paint & Sip Event; each week a paint & sip event will be held at a different Camrose location! Call the Camrose Arts Society for more details 780-672-9949

5. Have a campfire -- roast hotdogs, and make smores!

6. Visit the Camrose and District Centennial Museum. Learn more here

7. Make art from nature items

8. Season Launch for the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre on June 8, 2016. Facility tours, free concert and refreshments. Learn more here

9. Pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful sunshine

11. Take a roadtrip

12. Visit the downtown weekly Outdoor Farmers Market and grab some Ukrainian food or fresh garden veggies. Open from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm (Starting June 9, 2016)

13. Skip rocks

14. Take part in one of the many summer play groups/day camps

15. Watch the swans at Mirror Lake Careful! Don't get too close!

16. Visit one of the local greenhouses

17. Cheer on the bike teams during the MS Bike Tour June 11 - June 12, 2016

41. Take your fur-baby to the dog-park; find an off-leash area here

43. Visit an indoor playground at Time Out Café or the Camrose Family Resource Centre; perfect for spending a few hours out of the hot sun!

44. Do a Random Act of Kindness for someone

45. Check out some of the local Public Art and Sculptures; Did you know that Camrose currently has 11 public sculptures, including a Viking Longship, and a Martin Luther Bronze Sculpture?! See the Bill Fowler Visitor Information Centre for a full-list!

46. Climb a tree

73. Big Valley Jamboree July 28 - July 31, 2016: Come take part in one of the largest outdoor country music festivals! This year's entertainers include: Dierks Bentley, Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood!

74. Head out for a round of paintballing at Silver Creek Paintball

75. Find and check out the Camrose Book Bike! An interactive travelling library, offering library services and programming on wheels throughout Camrose! (Details here)

76. Pick a wildflower bouquet for someone

77. Go Berry-Picking at one of the near-by u-picks!

78. Catch a movie at Duggan Cinemas

80. Pack a picnic or bird watch at  Pleasure Island Fish Pond, a 2112 foot walk complete with 2 bridges.

81. Explore somewhere new

82. Camrose Founders Day August 20 - August 21, 2016: from cemetery ghost walks to a chocolate festival and historical church service there is something for ALL ages at the Founders Days events!

83. Play in the sprinkler

84. Spend a rainy day playing Virtual Mini-Golf at the Clubhouse

85. Blow bubbles

86. Walk up and down main street; check out local shops and restaurants

87. Eat veggies straight from the garden

88. Take a trip to the Nature Conservation Centre; once a depleted gravel pit has now been turned into a natural fishing pond. There is something for everyone and all ages: swimming, scuba diving, fishing, nature walk, bird watching, picnics, fire pits, non-motorized boating, etc.!

89. Have a water balloon fight

90. Take a short drive to Gwynne, Alberta to check out Chickadee Trail

91. Fly a Kite

92. Plan a daytrip and drive the sights of Boomtown Trail: a tourism region that runs down Highways 21 and 56!

93. Have a lazy pyjama day

94. Attend an event at the Bailey Theatre

95. Splash and play at the spray park

96. Have a kid-free day? Head to the Casino for some gaming & gambling

97. Do a cartwheel
