Easy 5 Minute DIY Teacher Gift

welp, that's it for grade 1. Just like that the school-year is over, it flew by. 

Did anyone else blink in September and BOOM June?!

I recently shared a year-end teacher gift that we did previously for Colden's preschool teachers and thought I would write-up this years gift as well. 

Colden adores the Zingy Zaps sweet tarts and I figured they would look pretty layered in a clear jar

Plus, I have a soft spot for sweet + corny/punny gifts, so we decided to wish his teachers "a sweet summer"! 

The best part?? It literally took 5 minutes to do! 

Honestly, the most time consuming part of this gift was separating the candy by colour. 

In addition to the candy jars, I also included a Tim Hortons card (in a thank you note), and a small bouquet of flowers. 

I packaged everything in little gift bags, and just like that -- teachers gifts completed for another year!

Materials:

Candy -- of your choosing (we went with Zingy Zaps as I could easily layer the hard candies by colour in the jar)

a clear jar with a lid (I used 500ml mason jars)

Yarn/String

Tutorial: 

Separate your candy by colour

Divide each colour of candy by the number of jars you are making 

(I made up 3 separate jars -- one for each teacher, so I split each candy colour into 3)

Add the candy into each jar. Layer the colours however you or your child like. 

Seal tightly with lid

Wrap yarn or string tightly over lid. Fasten ``Thank You`` tag. 

OPTIONAL: If you like, package the completed candy jar with a Coffee Gift Card, a Thank You Note and a small bouquet of flowers. Place all gift items in a small gift bag. Now have your child gift the present to their teacher(s)!

Building Memories DIY Father's Day Gift

One of the things Colden l o v e s most is being able to spend time with his daddy!  Any chance that Colden gets to spend just him and Pier is his favorite place to be! So we created a fun DIY Father’s Day Gift using Lego Duplos; the idea is to build + create memories with dad.

I love that this gift is so meaningful and can totally be personalized to each Father!

It was super easy coming up with a list of activities that Colden & Pier like to do together. Colden had so much fun listing +thinking up all the adventures he and dad should get up, too!

We wrote each activity on a seperate LEGO block and then added the finished blocks into a mason jar. When time allows, Pier can choose an activity from the mason jar. To "check off" a memory, each block can be built together in a tower or whatever shape you like!

To create your own Building Memories jar, brainstorm a list 20-30 fun ideas or activities.

Once you have finalized your activity list, write them onto Lego blocks using a sharpie. Fill up your container/jar with the personalized blocks and VOILA a meaningful, yet super easy DIY Father’s Day gift!

DIY Teacher Gift: Thank You for Helping Me Grow Flower Pot

It’s hard to believe that it's alllllllmost the end of the school-year (eep!.....did that go by super fast for anyone else?!). With less than a month until school is out for summer, I am posting a tutorial for one of my most fave teacher gifts!

We originally gifted these beautiful flowers/pots back when my son was in preschool

When I first came across this gift idea via Pinterest, I loved the idea of gifting a small potted flower or plant. Not every gift has to be expensive or hard-to-do and I especially loved the meaning behind the saying “Thank you for helping me grow”

During his preschool year, we saw such an enormous growth and maturity in our boy and I really wanted a sweet + meaningful way to show my child's teachers and helpers just how grateful we were for the hard work that they do every single day!

Plus, one of my favourite parts about DIY gifts is that your child is able to add their own personal touch! For this particular gift, my son loved being able to choose a different colored flower for each teacher/helper. AND he adored being able to get messy and help paint!

Materials:

Terra Cotta Pot(s)

Painters Tape

Black paint

Yellow paint

Black Sharpie

White Chalk sharpie markers

Dirt

Flowers

Tutorial:

You can use any size of pot you like I used a medium-sized terra cotta pot for each of my sons teachers and then smaller pots for the class assistants & office administration

Paint the base of your flower pot black

Allow time to dry

Paint the rim of the pot yellow

Allow to dry

Using a black sharpie, mark your measurement lines, and numbers along the yellow rim, creating the “ruler”

At first, I used a pencil to stencil my primary lines and then once even around the whole rim, I used a sharpie to mark each measurement line

Next, I used the White Chalk sharpie markers to write “Thanks for helping me grow!” (alternatively you could use white paint)

Add a little bit of dirt and plant a flower or plant of your choice!

I added a little skewer with each person's name attached to a little piece of decorative paper

As a nice little touch, I also added Colden’s name and the school year to the bottom of the Terra Cotta pots. Depending on the size of pot used, you could alternatively put this information on the back of the pot.  

Our teachers and helpers LOVED the flowers and flower pots! We have had several compliments on this DIY over the years and it remains one of my most favorite teacher gift ideas!
